The Client
Applied Biosystems, now part of ThermoFisher Scientific, is a global biotech firm specializing in industry-leading instruments and reagents (chemicals used in experimentation) for scientific analysis. Researchers use Applied Biosystems integrated systems for everything from sample prep to data analysis.
The Challenge
The challenge for Applied Biosystems’ Design Department as a whole was how best to communicate the company brand as an industry leader and innovator. In my role as Senior Designer, largely for the Events group, I collaborated with scientists, project managers, copywriters, and the design team to visualize scientific concepts and present information in a fresh, clean, professional way.
The Solutions
‘Analytica’ trade show booth
Applied Biosystems needed a booth at the ‘Analytica’ event that underscored its leadership position and allowed for multiple interaction points. Working with copywriters, account reps and vendors, I created the artwork for the booth, from the floorplan to the panel graphics. Our team received accolades from management:
“I cannot say enough about the fantastic job the events team did at this conference. Applied Biosystems was everywhere, and tastefully, in just the right dose.” — Luanne Meyer, Director of Market Research

Events Design Style Guide
The Applied Biosystems Events Design Style Guide was an essential tool for the design, editorial, and marketing departments, as well as for outside vendors. I created the lie-flat book to provide specifications for type, copy, color, photography and property styling, taking the guesswork out of trade show booth design and production worldwide. [PDF]

Poster book, event mailer, and giveaway advertisement
Below are a tri-fold brochure listing posters about scientific research using Applied Biosystems instruments, to be presented at a conference; a mailer announcing a coming event; and a prize giveaway ad. Working within brand guidelines, I created these pieces to accentuate the essential role Applied Biosystems instruments played in cancer research; to garner the widest possible audience for upcoming scientific workshops; and to entice event-goers to the Applied Biosystems booth.
